KPCC Chief assails BJP government on farmer suicides issue

Gulbarga, Jun 20 (UNI) Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Mallikarjuna Kharge today alleged that the failure of the State government to make proper arrangements for sufficient supply of fertilisers had led to farmer suicides across the state.

Addressing newspersons after handing over Rs one lakh compensation to the family of a farmer who had committed suicide yesterday in Chincholi taluk in the district, he alleged that there was no co-ordination between Revenue and Agriculture departments and that caused confusion among the farming community.

He charged that the State Government had totally failed to discharge its responsibilities in proper distribution of fertiliser to farmers.

The KPCC Chief assailed that Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa was trying to shift the blame on the Centre for the lapses.

Earlier, Mr Kharge, who visited the house of Veerashetty, the deceased farmer, handed the cheque as financial assistance to the bereaved family.
