'Inflation figures expose bankruptcy of UPA government': BJP
New Delhi, Jun 20 (UNI) The BJP today said the inflation rate breaking the 13 year old record to touch 11.05 per cent had clearly showed how bankrupt the UPA Government was in terms of ideas, actions and programmes.
BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the inflation rate jumping from 8.75 per cent to double digits as predicted also exposed how clueless the government was in tackling the surging prices and inflation.
This government has converted the economy of surpluses to the economy of shortage and almost every essential item was in short supply be it cooking gas, fertilisers or kerosene and were sold in the black market. The Congress led government has taken the country back to the era of shortages and blackmarket true to its traits displayed in the past, he said.
Mr Javadekar said India was self sufficient in edible oil production just five years ago but the last five years of the UPA regime had made the country a net importer because the government provided no incentives for the farmers.
He said Finance Minister P Chidambaram only talked about cartelisation in cement and steel sector but did nothing to break the nexus and the government had done away with the price monitoring mechanism.
