Incessant rains takes UP death toll to 31

Lucknow, Jun 20 (UNI) Incessant rainfall in Uttar Pradesh since the arrival of south-west monsoon has not only claimed 31 lives, but also destroyed thousand hectares of farmland in several districts.

The south-west monsoon showers might have relieved people from the sweltering weather, but the rain-triggered incidents have taken the death count to 31 so far in UP.

The six fresh casualties due to rain-related incidents were reported from Ferozabad, Kaushambi, Lucknow and Shahjahanpur.

In Kaushambi, three people, including a woman were burried alive under the debris of a dilapidated wall, while in Shahjahanpur two people got electrocuted.

Whereas, the increasing water level of several big and small rivers were affecting hundreds of villages in UP.

According to Central Water Commission (CWC), the rising water level of rivers due to incessant rainfall was becoming alarming for several districts in the state. In Sant Kabirnagar district, the Rampur-Makdoompur dam was facing threat from swelling Ghaghra river.
