Five accused convicted in Bijal Joshi rape case

Ahmedabad, Jun 20 (UNI) The City Sessions Court today convicted five accused in the infamous Bijal Joshi rape and suicide case that rocked the state in December 2003.

The Sessions Judge Jyotsana Yagnik convicted prime accused Sajal Jain, Chandan Jaiswal, Mandan Jaiswal, Sugam Jain and Dharmendra Jain , while acquitted six others in the case. Quantum of punishment is expected to be delivered this afternoon.

Bijal Joshi was gangraped by her boy friend Sajal Jain and his friends in December 2003. She later committed suicide on January 6, 2004.

The court has acquitted six persons Harishankar Jaiswal, Shreya Jaiswal, Seema Jaiswal, Ashok Patel, Pannalal Jaiswal and Anand Jaiswal, who were arrested on the charge of assisting in destroying the evidence in the case, giving benefit of doubt.
