Couple sentenced to life term

Pathanamthitta, Kerala, Jun 20 (UNI) A local court today convicted and sentenced a couple to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 in a case relating to murder.

Additional Fast Track Court (FTC) Judge Immanuel P Koshy sentenced Charivuvilayil Puthen Veettin Soman (45) and his wife Thankamony (42) for murdering Thulasi Bhai (38) and her husband's sister Vijayamma (40).

According to the prosecution, Soman stabbed Vijayamma on the chest with a knife when she was cleaning the grass in a canal at Malamekkhara, near Adoor on July 24, 2001.

Thulasi Bhai, who rushed to the spot on hearing the cries, was stabbed by Thankamony.

Both of them succumbed to injuries on the way to a hospital.
