UN to beef up security at its Pakistan offices
{image-pak boopadam_20062008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Islamabad, June 20: In the wake of the June 2 suicide attack on Danish embassy in Islamabad killing eight persons, the UN has reportedly decided to beef up security in and outside its offices in the country.
Communication Advisor to the UN Resident Director, Amena Kamaal said that the security had been beefed up as precautionary measure to ward off any danger to the UN staff and property, reported the Daily Times. She rejected the claim that UN offices had been temporarily closed down due to the security situation in Pakistan, saying that only the selected staff members had been asked to stop attending offices for a week.
"Selected staffers have been asked to stay away, but continue to operate from their homes as work is going on inside some of the buildings," she said and added that they would start attending the offices once the work had been completed.
