2,337 students to get scholarship under centrally sponsored scheme

Chandigarh, Jun 20 (UNI) The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has decided to give scholarship of Rs 6000 per annum each to 2,337 meritorious students of class IX in Haryana.

Only those students who are studying as regular students in class IX in government, local body and government-aided schools are eligible under the centrally sponsored National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme.

The scholarships will be paid from class IX till class XII for a maximum period of four years, an official spokesman said here today.

Under this scheme, scholarships would be given to those students whose parental income was not more than Rs 1.50 lakh per annum from all sources.

The spokesman said that the fixed quota of scholarship for 2337 students had been decided on the basis of enrolment of students in Class VII and Class VIII in the state and population of children of concerned age group of class VII and VIII. The scholarships would be provided quarterly to the selected students.

He said that as each state would have to conduct its own test for selection of students for the award of the scholarship, the Haryana Government had decided to conduct the examination on August 17 for nominating the students for the national level (second stage) examination to be conducted by the NCERT.

He said that the last date of applying for the examination scheduled for August 17 was July 21 and application forms were made available in the offices of District Education Officers from June 16 onwards. The students had to submit applications forms at the respective examination centre of the district.
