YSR urges Centre to grant classical language status to Telugu
New Delhi, Jun 19 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today called on Tourism Minister Ambika Soni to discuss the issue of grant of classical language status to Telugu.
During the two-and-a-half hour meeting, the Union Minister told Dr Reddy that a committee of experts was examining the issue of granting classical language status to Telugu and Kannada which have laid claims to treat their languages as classical language.
Ms Soni told Dr Reddy that the majority of experts had formed their views on the issue and efforts were on to reach a consensus and expressed hope that the committee would arrive at a decision soon. Once such a decision was received, it would be forwarded to the government for follow up action.
Dr Reddy also discussed with Ms Soni the ways of improving tourism infrastructure in his state.
Yesterday, Dr Reddy who is on an official visit to the national capital had called on Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to discuss issues relating to his state.
