43 mn farmers will get loan waiver by Jun 30: FM

New Delhi, Jun 19: Finance Minister P Chidambaram today asked the public sector banks to prepare a list of farmers covered under the loan waiver and relief scheme.

The list will be put up by all the bank branches and financial insitutions from where the farmers have taken the loans. The farmers can go to the banks and see their names in the lists and the quantum of loans waived. In case of any problem, the farmers have been asked to approach the Public Grievance Officer, whose names will also be available with the banks. Mr Chidambaram has asked the Banks to provide a certificate of the loan waived to the farmers in the language with which they are familiar. All the 43 million farmers will get the loan waiver or relief by June 30, 2008. This was stated by the Finance Minister at a video conference he had with officer of Public sector banks this morning.
