Putrajaya (Malaysia), June 19 : Downplaying the recent reports alleging involvement of Malaysians in a bomb plot by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam (LTTE) in Colombo, Malaysia has said that it will not probe the matter.

Deputy Home Minister Chor Chee Heung said until there was evidence of Malaysian involvement, such news would remain as allegations and claims of certain parties.

"I don't think that at this stage an internal probe is necessary. It's only rumour," he told reporters.

Chor also said Sri Lanka had not asked for information or requested assistance from Malaysia.

According to a report in Sri Lanka's The Daily Mirror, police arrested six people, including a woman, with 2.7kg of explosives who were waiting for instructions from "certain quarters" in Malaysia to carry out a bomb attack in Colombo.

The report also stated that this group had planned to set off a bomb in Colombo on Saturday but police foiled them, according to the Star.

It was reported that the suspects had been given directions over the phone from Malaysia to carry out the attack.
