Guj govt selling Narmada water at throwaway price: Prajapati
Vadodara, Jun 19 (UNI) Noted environmentalist and social worker Rohit Prajapati today charged the Gujarat government with selling portable water of the multi-purpose Sardar Sarovar Dam at a throwaway price to industries.
Talking to newsmen here, Mr Prajapati, who earlier vehemently opposed raising of the dam height to 121.92 m, took strong exception to the state government's decision to provide the Narmada water to industries like Apollo Tyres, General Motors and other water bottling plants at the rate of Rs 10 per 1000 litres, while people of Saurashtra and Kutch were starving for drinking water.
Mr Prajapati had obtained this information from the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) under the Right to Information Act (RIA).
He also criticised the government for not being able to formulate a proper policy with regard to area wise distribution of Sardar Sarovar Dam water for irrigation and drinking purposes so far.
