Floods ravaged North Balasore; Over one million affected
Bhubaneswar, Jun 19 (UNI) Over one million people were affected in four flood-hit districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanja and Jajpur after Subarnarekha, Jalaka, Baitarani and Jambhira rivers inundated hundreds of villages and disrupting both road and rail communications.
Chief Secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy told newspersons here today that at least 12 trains were cancelled and nine trains diverted via Cuttack-Anugul-Jharsuguda as the flood water submerged the rail tracks at several places between Khargapur and Balasore, seriously affected the movements of the trains.
The flood has so far claimed two lives in Mayurbhanj district.
The deceased had been identified as Kadamali Hembram(13) in Rainangpur block and Nirmal Mohanta (3)in Routra village of Betanati block. They died due to wall collapse.
Mr Tripathy said the Jalaka and Subarnarekha in Balasore district, Baitarani in Bhadrak district and Jhambira in Mayurbhanj district were flowing much above the danger level.
More than 15,000 people had been evacuated from the flood hit areas of Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj and Balasore district so far.
