Congress, NCP major rivals in SMKMC elections
Sangli, Maharashtra, Jun 19 (UNI) Campainging by various political parties is going on in full swing for the Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Municipal Corporation (SMKMC) elections, with Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) being the major rivals.
A total of 415 candidates are in fray for the polls, scheduled to be held on June 22, for 74 wards, with most of the wards witnessing multi-corner contest.
Maharashtra Finance Minister Jayant Patil is campaigning for NCP and State Co-operation Minister Patangrao Kadam is campaigning for Congress.
Congress and NCP are contesting the elections from all wards, while Janasurajya party from 49 wards and Shiv Sena from 15 wards.
As many as 178 candidates are contesting as independents.
