Buta calls for change in social mindset
Bhopal, June 19 (UNI) National Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman Buta Singh today called for a change in social mindset for the uplift and overall development of Dalits.
''Even 60 years after independence, there are villages where SC hutments are away from the general category. We will have to rise above this old mindset through dissemination of education,'' he said while responding to media queries after the first day's meeting of a two-day state-level review of SC welfare schemes.
Calling for more strictness on part of the government, the former Union minister added that the Commission's objective was not criticism but to inspire the government to do excellent work towards SC welfare.
Lauding the Madhya Pradesh regime's work for SC welfare, he however said, ''this state is second when it comes to atrocities against SC. The government says that SC comprise 22.45 per cent of the population. Land should be allotted for their residence and livelihood.'' UNI AKS-AC RL KN2054
