UP enjoys monsoon showers for fourth day

Lucknow, June 18 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh continued to be blessed by the Rain God for the fourth consecutive day today since the onset of south-west monsoon.

The denizens of UP enjoyed the pleasant weather as the showers have brought a remarkable dip in the temperature and relieved people from the sultry weather.

According to weatherman, the monsoon was currently active in eastern UP and moderate to rather heavy rainfall occurred at most places, including Allahabad, Faizabad, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Bareilly, Agra and Jhansi divisions.

Dabri (Bareilly division) recorded 12 cm rainfall, followed by Kulpahar (Bundelkhand) 10 cm, Neemsaar (Sitapur) 9 cm, Jhansi 8 cm, Mahoba 7 cm, while Behraich, Hardoi and Banda observed 6 cm rainfall each. Lucknow, Ballia and Bani recorded 5 cm rainfall each.

Traffic snarls and water-logging continued to be the adverse effects of rainfall, creating problem for the office goers.

Meanwhile, the meteorological department forecast moderate to rather heavy rainfall accompanied with squall for most places of all the divisions in the state.

The met department has also warned of heavy rains at few places in the state in the next 24 hrs.

Reports from Siddharthnagar district says as many as 15 villages were facing flood threat due to increasing water level in rivers and Rampur-Makdoompur dam was also facing danger.

According to Central Water Commission (CWC), the heavy rainfall has started raising water level of several big and small rivers, including Ramganga, Yamuna, Gomti, Sai, Saryu, Sharda, Kwano, Rapti and Gandhak and posed danger of flood to several districts.

But till now, the rivers, were below the danger level, the CWC informed.
