Three arrested, five weapons seized

Mumbai, Jun 18 (UNI) The officials of Anti Extortion Cell (ATC) have arrested three people and seized five weapons and 34 live cartridges from their possession at Mulund in North East Mumbai.

Joint Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria told mediapersons here today that the ATC team had received an information that a group of people would be coming to deliver weapons to a party at Mulund.

An ATC team, headed by Vijay Salaskar, laid a trap and arrested them yesterday at 1900 hrs.

Police had seized five weapons comprising two nine mm pistols, two factory-made 0.32 revolvers, one country-made pistol, 34 live cartridges, a motorcycle, two mobile phones, four SIM cards and Rs 20,000 cash from their possession.

They were identified as Vijay Narge (25), Nilesh Sonawane (21) and Ramesh Jadhav (20). None of them have any previous criminal record.

During interrogation, they revealed that the weapons were to be supplied to one Satish Shetey, who is lodged in jail to eliminate rival gang member in the prison. Shetey is in jail on charges of murder at Kandivali railway station. However, Mr Maria declined to divulge details.

The trio was produced in the 37th Metropolitan Magistrate Court, which remanded them to police custody till June 30, he added.
