London, June 18 : New Miss Great Britain and would-be MP Gemma Garrett had to unwillingly abstain from relishing calorific treats offered at one of the public functions, as she is on a strict diet.

Garrett prefers to stay away from high-calorie food and is quite happy with her salads.

The 26-year-old lady is on a strict diet and had to keep check on her diet, thus she did not splurge on food delights on offer from waiting staff at a pre-concert VIP reception.

"It's no fun staying away from the canape tray. But that's the bit of modelling no one ever sees," the Daily Express quoted Gemma, as saying.

Gemma was among the guests at the star-studded RD Crusaders charity concert at London's ExCel Centre and a party held there by OK! magazine.

"I laugh when I see models in fashion pages, apparently gorging themselves on cakes and ice-creams, because it's just not realistic," added Gemma.

This Belfast-born model is vying for a parliamentary seat by standing against David Davis in the Haltemprice and Howden by-election, as part of the Beauties For Britain (BFB) party.

However she confessed that the coming week might just have her stumbling from her strict diet, as she is returning to her Northern Ireland home soon and might have a lot of mommy-made food waiting for her.

"My big sister Lisa is getting baptised and Mum is going to lay on a very big spread for all the friends and family. I just hope there's a salad option," she wailed.
