Kushinagar DM suspended over deaths of children
Gorakhpur/Lucknow, June 18 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today suspended Kushinagar District Magistrate Umesh Chandra Tiwari following the death of three children, who were admitted to hospital esterday after consuming adulterated drink in Khirya Tola area here.
The DM was suspended with immediate effect for dereliction of duty.
Besides, four policemen namely sub inpector Shubh Narayan, constable Arjun Prasad, Lalchand Prasad and Ijharul were also suspended over the same.
With the fresh death today, toll reaches three as two children had sucummbed yesterday only, official sources said.
Gorakhpur Commissioner P K Mahant here assured stringent action against the culprit and apprised three persons have been arrested in this regard.
Family of the deceased would be given ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 each, he said.
Out of the 35 children, 15 had been admitted to Baba Raghavdas Medical College here today in critical condition.
Thirty five children fell ill after consuming the spurious cold drinks under the brand label Pepsi in Khiriya Tola area of Padrauna.
Meanwhile, SSP (Gorakhpur) Piyush Mordiya said the adulterated cold drinks were being supplied from Gorakhpur to other part of the districts, thus, raids were conducted in dealers offices at Rajghat, Tiwaripur and Gorakhnath area.
