GOI to unveil National Action Plan on Climate Change
Bangalore, Jun 18(UNI) The Union Government is formulating a National Action Plan on Climate Change and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is expected to unveil it soon, PM's Special Envoy Shyam Saran said today.
Delivering his key note address at the 'Clean Air Summit' jointly organised by Bosch Limited and Die Deutsche Gesellschaftfuir Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) here, he said that while formulating the Plan the social and economic development objective has been protected.
Mr Saran said that the main challenge before the country was of ensuring energy security and to combat climate change as well. About 600 million people of the total population was still depended on congenital energy sources for their requirement and still to get access to commercial energy sources.
He said the National Policy on Climate change was prepared taking into account various aspects including drought and flood management and weather conditions and the plan is like 'National Strategy for Sustainable Development".
Referring to increasing Urbanisation, Mr Saran said that the main challenge in cities and towns are to provide efficient transport services and the National Action Plan give more focus on Mass transportation and reduction in personalised transport services.
