Banned crops destroyed, illicit timber seized in Kashmir
Srinagar, Jun 18 (UNI) Banned crops on 300 kanals of land was destroyed while a large quantity of illicit timber was seized in the Kashmir valley overnight, official sources said today.
They said police and officials from the Excise department launched a joint operation in south Kashmir following a tip-off that farmers were cultivating banned crops.
He said during the raid at village Melhora, cannabis cultivated on 300 kanals of land was destroyed.
Police has registered a case, they said adding no arrest has been made.
Police and Excise officials destroyed banned crops, including charas, on thousands of kanals of land in Pulwama and Anantnag districts during the past one year.
They added police seized 33 big logs of illicit timber from smugglers near Nala Lar Daroo in Pulwama district in the early hours today. The smugglers however managed to escape.
