Police firing: panel's terms of reference announced

Bangalore, Jun 17 (UNI) The Karnataka government today announced the terms of reference of the Justice Jagannath Shetty Commission appointed to inquire into the June 10 Police firing at Haveri town in which one farmer was killed and nine others sustained bullet injuries.

The terms of the reference of the Commission of Inquiry, among other things, include whether there was any prior information regarding the impending clash and if so action taken by the police to avert the clash.

It also included to know about the sequence of events and circumstances leading to police firing, the quantum of force used was necessary, justified or excessive.

The Commission was also assigned to know whether there was any negligence or error of judgement on the part of the police in dealing with the situation and any other matter which arises from or is connected with or incidental to any act or omission relating to the incident.

The Commission has been given four months to submit its report.
