Highest groundwater utilisation in Delhi
Chandigarh, June 17 (UNI) The highest over-utilisation of groundwater has been observed in Delhi, followed by Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana.
The utilisation of groundwater in Delhi is around 170 per cent followed by Punjab (145 per cent), Rajasthan (125 per cent) and Haryana (109 per cent).
This was informed by Chief Executive Officer of National Rainfed Area Authority J S Samra while expressing concern on the fast depleting ground watertable in the region at a workshop on the theme 'Combating Land Degradation for Sustainable Agriculture' to mark United Nation's World Day to Combat Desertification at CII Convention Centre here today.
The workshop was organised by the Agricultural Finance Corporation Ltd under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests.
Dr Samra in his inagural address said in Punjab the highest over exploitation of groundwater had been observed in Jalandhar district.
