DMK severs ties with PMK in TN

Chennai, Jun 17 (UNI) The DMK, heading the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) in Tamil Nadu, today announced severing of ties with its ally, the PMK.

A decision to this effect was taken at the DMK's high-level committee meeting chaired by DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the Party Headquarters, Anna Arivalayam.

Mr Karunanidhi, however, maintained that the DMK would not ask the Congress to remove the PMK from the UPA at the Centre, where PMK Chief's son Anbumani Ramadoss is serving as Health Minister in the Union Cabinet.

''As far as Dr Ramadoss is concerned, he was always a lovable person. The DMK always maintains cordial relations with him and has nothing against him,'' he said, indicating that the DMK would not the exert pressure on the Congress heading the UPA at the Centre, in which the PMK is also a constituent, to ditch the PMK.
