Depositors picket Mudalirper Police Station

Puducherry, Jun 17 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Mudaliarpet here as a group of people who were cheated by a couple running a chit picketed the Mudalirpet police station today.

They were protesting against the failure of the police to arrest the couple despite lodging a complaint a few days ago.

Police held talks with the agitators and sought three days time to initiate action, following which they dispersed.

One Janakiraman of Velrampet and his wife Kannammal, orgnisers of the chit had collected Rs 15 lakh from several people and failed to return the money.

Those cheated demanded the disposal of the properties acquired by the couple out of the chit money in order to get their money back.

In an another agitation, traffic on the Bussy Street was affected for a while as owners of the mechanised fishing boats put up a road blockade near the Kamban Kalaiarangam, demanding that diesel be provided at a subsidised rate to the boat owners.

Senior officials held talks with them and resolved the matter.
