CM condoles Sri Lankan social worker Thangamma's death

Chennai, Jun 17 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today condoled the death of Sri Lankan social worker Thangamma Appakutty, who died in the Island nation on June 15.

Affectionately called as ''Tamizh Pandithai'' (Tamil Scholar), by the Eelam people, Ms Appakutty, remained a spinster and served the society, the DMK leader said in his message.

After beginning her career as a teacher, Appakutty had established a library and helped the publication of many Tamil books, Mr Karunanidhi said.

''She had won the love and affection of Eelam people by her selfless service. Her death was an irreparable loss to them,'' the DMK leader said.

He also offered his condolences to all the Tamils.
