Chouhan's plea to open IIT from this year
Bhopal, June 17(UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged Union Minister for Human Resources Development Arjun Singh to start functioning of the proposed Indian Institute of Technology at Indore from this academic year itself.
In a letter to Mr Singh, the Chief Minister said the state government had already selected 524 acre land, 22 km from Indore railway station, for the proposed institute. Besides, a building having 56,000 square feet area had been located in Indore city to facilitate functioning of the institute from this academic session.
Pointing out that the HRD ministry had been requested to send a team earlier in May to inspect the selected land and building, Mr Chouhan reiterated that the team be sent at the earliest.
Stating that the state lacked institutions to impart quality education, he said starting the IIT from this year itself would be proper.
