Punjab to challenge stay on govt teachers' appointments
Chandigarh, Jun 16 (UNI) The Punjab government plans to challenge the stay granted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on the appointments of the government school teachers in the state.
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today directed the Punjab Advocate General Hardev Singh Mattewal to personally review the entire matter and accordingly initiate the legal proceedings to get the stay vacated which was granted on May 28 by the High Court.
Earlier in the day an assurance to this effect was given by Mr Badal to the four member deputation of the Punjab unemployed BEd Teachers Front, led by its president Mr Sukhdarshan Singh which called on him at his official residence this morning.
In the meeting, the deputation had urged the Chief Minister to expedite the process of finalisation of the appointment letters to approximately 14,000 selected teachers and service providers before the start of the academic session for 2008-09.
