N-deal: Cong says it can never compromise internal security
New Delhi, June 16 (UNI) The Congress today repudiated CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat's statement that the Government was compromising the country's strategic interests while going ahead with the India-US nuclear deal.
''The Government cannot ever contemplate any step that would compromise the country's internal security,'' Congress spokesman Manish Tiwari told reporters.
''Whatever steps the UPA Government had taken so far were in supreme national interests,'' Mr Tiwari said.
He said the high oil prices and the possibility of their going up further made it clear that all energy options, including nuclear, should be explored to have a sustained 10 per cent economic growth.
