ACP Rajbir case accused sent to judicial custody

Ambala, June 16 (UNI) Vijay Bhardwaj, the alleged assassin of Delhi ACP and encounter specialist Rajbir was produced in the Special CBI court here today and sent in judicial custody till June 30.

Bhardwaj was brought here by the CBI on transfer of the case from the Haryana Police to the premier investigating agency. The case was handed over to the CBI under orders from the state government on the request of Ms Namrata, wife of the diceased ACP.

While making the request, Ms Namrata had alleged in her application that the Gurgaon Police had not made any breakthrough in the case hence it should be handed over to the Central agency.

The counsel for Bhardwaj made a demand that his client should be given separate accomodation in jail. Rejecting the request, the Court contended that the accused could not be kept in a separate place as he was a high profile criminal.

The jail administration could keep better watch on him in a common accommodation than in a separate cell, where chances of committing suicide or harming himself were more than in an open barrack, the Court further stated.

Bhardwaj, a property dealer had shot Rajbir dead in his Gurgaon office on the night of March 24. After committing the crime he informed a number of people on mobile about the incident. He was later arrested by the police in Gurgaon.
