Train mishap averted; traffic stranded for several hrs

Varanasi, June 15 (UNI) Varanasi-Jalaun railway route remained disrupted for several hours after some anti-social elements attempted to derail a train at Varanasi-Lucknow track in Shivpura area here today.

According to railway sources, miscreants had kept an about 10 metre long railway track upon the existing track, which was spotted by the light engine man during routine checking.

However, by the time he spotted the odd, the track got stuck to the engine.

Battling the odds, the driver somehow suceeded in halting the engine and informed the incident to the station master.

The station master, however, pressed the rescue team into service, who detached the track from the engine through a gas-cutter.

Meanwhile, the regular traffic remained disrupted for about four hours at Varanasi-Jalaun route.

A big accident was also averted by the prompt action of the engine-man, however, several trains passing at the route were delayed.
