No power generation in Nathpa Jhakri for fifth day

Shimla, Jun 15 (UNI) Power generation in the 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri remained affected for the fifth day today due to high silt content in the Satluj River, official sources today said.

The silt level in the river was recorded at about 6,000 PPM (parts per million), higher than the permissible limit of 4,000 PPM following which power generation remained affected, the sources told UNI here.

The sources said all the six units of 250 MW had been closed on June 11 following high silt content as a precaution since the silt could damage the machines.

The Centre and Himachal Pradesh are losing an estimated Rs nine crore due to the closure of the project, which a joint venture between the two.

The sources said the closure of the plant has affected power supply to Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Rajasthan and Delhi.
