Monsoon hits UP, temperature dips

Lucknow, Jun 15 (UNI) After the early morning showers in Uttar Pradesh, weather department confirmed monsoon advent in almost all parts of the state.

Monsoon had advanced in UP vigorously in eastern parts, whereas, was active in western areas, Met department said today.

Moderate to rather heavy rainfall occurred at most places of Allahabad, Varanasi, Azamgarh, Devipatan (Gonda), Basti, Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Mirzapur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Bareilly, Agra and Moradabad divisions in the last 24 hrs.

However, the downpour that gave respite to people from humid and sultry weather also claimed four lives in UP.

Fresh deaths were reported from Sultanpur, Bareilly and Unnav.

In Sultanpur, mother and daughter succumbed on the spot after a tree fell upon their car in Chanda area due to strong winds and showers, whereas a girl drowned in spating Ramganga in Bareilly, however a labourer was electrocuted following the current in the wet walls in Unnav district.

Meanwhile, UPiets has breathed sigh of relief with the monsoon showers that lashed the most parts of the state today bringing temperature down to several degrees.
