Cong will win 2009 AP Assembly polls: YSR

Hyderabad, Jun 15: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today expressed confidence that the Congress would win a majority in the 2009 Assembly polls overcoming the party's organisational problems in some areas.

Releasing a book titled 'Four Years Development' authored by Senior Journalist T Surendra at a function here, Dr Reddy said the Congress won some Assembly constitutencies, where the party was very weak, in the just concluded byelections using the slogan of development which had been taking place since 2004.

''People reposed faith in the Congress government as it has taken up several development and welfare programmes in a big way. We will not lose the faith of the people in the next election also,'' he said.

''We should also hold an introspection of the programmes to see whether they are reaching the people as it is important in the present day politics,'' he added.

APCC president D Srinivas said the fruit of development should reach the eligible and needy. The government was implementing all promises made during the election besides implementing new schemes like Rs two per kg rice which was not mentioned in the poll manifesto.
