RS polls: Congress, JD(S) may kiss and make up

New Delhi, June 14: It is to be believed that Congress has not learned anything from thier recent debacles in Karnataka. Congress leadership in Karnataka is exploring possibilities for a tie-up with the HD Dev Gowda-led JD(S) in the Rajya Sabha elections from Karnataka sheduled later this month.

Sources say AICC General Secretary Prithviraj Chauhan, in-charge of party affairs in the state, is in talks with JD(S) leaders. The Congress has got 80 members in the 224-member Karnataka Assembly and is confident of bagging one Rajya Sabha seat. If an understanding is reached with the JD(S), it can have two members in the upper house. Elections are scheduled to be held simultaneously for some seats in the Karnataka Legislative Council and former Chief Minister S M Krishna's name is doing the rounds as a likely candidate.

A senior AICC leader however said yesterday that former chief ministers should not come through the backdoor.
