Gram Panchayats to get funds directly under NREGS
Sultanpur, Jun 14 (UNI) To wipe-off corruption from the Centre's most beneficial National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi has succeeded in his efforts to provide the Gram Panchayats with funds directly.
Till now, only Amethi, Rahul's parliamentary constituency, and Sultanpur have been benefited with the new arrangement, while all other Gram Panchayats and districts were waiting for the same, sources said.
As many as 900 Gram Panchayats in Sultanpur have already been provided Rs 33 crore under the NREGS, they added.
The change came, following regular complaints to Mr Gandhi against victimisation of the scheme. On his trip to Sultanpur on Feburary 16, Mr Gandhi had assured that he would take the matter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and try for direct providence of funds.
