Extortionist was shot dead
Barrackpore, Jun 14 (UNI) A 35-year old miscreant was shot dead at Boatghar area under Ghola police station in North 24 Parganas early today, police said.
The deceased, Ashok Biswas, a resident of Boatghar, was a notorious criminal and allegedly involved in extorting money from the businessmen of the area, who had time and again lodged complaint with the police.
Police picked up him from the road and brought to the Panihati state general hospital where he was declared dead.
Police said, he was shot down, while a number of local residents said today that having been victimized by him regularly local businessmen virtually lynched him.
Police sent the body for postmortem and started investigation. No one was, however, arrested so far, police added.
