WJC demands to allow MESEB to execute power projects
Shillong, June 13 (UNI) The War Jaintia Conference (WJC) has urged the state government to allow the Meghalaya State Electricity Board (MeSEB) to execute the two new proposed power promects in the Jaintia Hills district.
In a memorandum to Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Donkupar Roy, the WJC urged the Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) government not to scrap the power deals inked during the regime of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance in connection with the Myntdu Leshka State II and the Umngot hydro electric projects, which were among the six projects handed over to private companies.
The earlier government had in a deal entrusted the execution and operation of the projects through joint venture system to private companies.
''The WJC is confident that the MeSEB has the required expertise to execute any big or mega power projects in the state and responsibility for the two projects in the district be given to the board,'' the memorandum demanded.
