Vigilance detects Rs 4.57 lakh misappropriation in PHE in Doda
Jammu, June 13 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation has detected misappropriation of government money to the tune of Rs 4.57 lakh by manipulation of records in State Public Health and Engineering (PHE) Department in Doda district, official sources here said today.
''A joint surprise check was conducted on specific information to verify allegations of misappropriation of funds by the officials of PHE division, Doda, made during the year 2005,'' the sources told UNI adding, ''the funds were released in the wake of heavy snowfall for restoration of water supply in Hydraulic Circle, Doda.'' However, a random check of 23 works out of a total of 68 repair works revealed that Mr Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, the then Executive Engineer in league with other officials of PHE division, Doda under a conspired plan drew an amount of Rs 4,57,190 as labour charges and dishonestly misappropriated it, the sources added.
''The officials misused their positions and resorted to falsification of records viz muster sheets, falsely show the engagement of labour and had therefore, fraudulently manipulated the records and drawn an amount of Rs 4,57,190 as labour charges,'' the sources further said.
Meanwhile case under Sections 5(1)(C) R/W 5(2) P.C Act, 120-B, 409, 467, 468, 471-RPC has been registered against FIR no 15/2008 at Vigilance Department, Jammu, they said.
