NSM demands apology from Modi against his remark

Ahmedabad, Jun 13 (UNI) New Socialist Movement (NSM) has demanded an open apology from Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to the people of the country for his statements on June 8 that ''Gujarat ought not to give taxes to the Central Government for one year.'' Amrish N Patel, General Secretary of NSM, in a release here today, strongly condemned Mr Modi's statement and demanded an open apology, failing which NSM would compel to file a complaint against Chief Minister under section 124-A of the Indian Penal Code for making such seditious propaganda.

He also said such a statement, coming from a Chief Minister, would encourage the divisive forces in the country and would amount to attacking the federal structure of our country.

Mr Modi had reportedly remarked on June 8 that Gujarat gave a sum of Rs 40,000 crore as taxes to the national exechequer while the Centre was giving back only 2.5 per cent of that amount. If the Centre so wishes, it did not need to pay the state any money for a year but on condition that it should not collect any taxes from the State, he had stated.
