Need to make blood donation a mass movement: Rodrigues

Chandigarh, Jun 13 (UNI) Lauding the life saving role of voluntary blood donors, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues stressed the need to give further momentum to the blood donation movement.

In a message on the eve of World Blood Donor Day, with this year's global theme "Giving Blood Regularly", here today, General Rodrigues said, "This occasion reminds us of our social obligation towards society to meet the colossal blood transfusion needs in our hospitals to cope with emergencies, maternal and pre-natal cases and in treating anaemic disorders. It is, therefore, essential that blood donation must be made a mass movement by generating awareness in each and every home of the need for sustainable blood supply.

"The day also provides an opportunity to convey our gratitude to those people who have given their blood voluntarily, for the benefit of others." The Governor thanked all voluntary blood donors for their contribution towards this noble cause and expressed the hope that a new generation of blood donors would follow their example, providing safe blood for use, wherever and whenever it is needed to save a life.
