Musharraf 'unhappy' over insufficient media coverage

Islamabad, Jun 13 (UNI) Pakistan Presidential Spokesman Rashid Qureshi called on Information Minister Sherry Rehman and conveyed his concerns over insufficient media coverage to President Musharraf on state-owned Pakistan Television (PTV), a local media report today said.

''Mr Qureshi expressed his concern over insufficient media coverage of President Musharraf,'' local daily The Nation quoted sources privy to the meeting as saying.

''He (Qureshi) has asked information minister to ensure appropriate coverage of the President on state-run PTV,'' the sources added against the backdrop of media reports that the new Pakistani government, hostile to President Musharraf has stricted meetings of foreign delegations with him.

The sources further revealed that Presidential Spokesman Mr Qureshi was of the view that as the supreme head of the State, President was not getting official media coverage of his engagements on PTV.

However, Mr Qureshi claimed that the meeting was just a courtesy call on request of Ms Rehman that lasted for hardly 5-10 minutes.

The sources added that Ms Rehman assured Mr Qureshi that she would ensure that the President gets enough media coverage of his routine engagements.

However, Ms Rehman, in response to a question told a press conference that it was a courtesy call and Mr Qureshi had not brought any special message from the presidency.
