Jogi welcomes increase in support price of paddy
Raipur, Jun 13 (UNI) Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi today thanked Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for increasing the support price of paddy by Rs 105 per quintal.
In a statement issued here, Mr Jogi said the Centre has been increasing support price of paddy every year, thereby strengthening the economic condition of the farmers, besides improving the economy of the state.
Referring to the demand for increasing the support price of paddy up to Rs 1,000 per quintal, Mr Jogi pointed out that the Congress-led Government had been increasing the support price by a substantial amount every year.
However, the previous BJP-led NDA Government had increased the support price of paddy by Rs 10 in five years.
''Chhattisgarh Chief Minster Raman Singh should announce a bonus of Rs 150 on the support price on the behalf of the state government, if he is really serious in improving the condition of the peasants,'' Mr Jogi added.
