Illicit liquor unit busted

Puducherry,June 13(UNI) Puducherry excise police today busted an illicit liquor manufacturing unit at Sorappet near here and seized illicit liquor worth Rs.One lakh.

According to excise sources,on a tip off that the illicit liquor manufacturing unit was functioning in a shed adjacent to a brick kiln in the area,a team under deputy collector (excise) raided the area early this morning.

On seeing the excise vehicle,the occupants of the shed escaped in a car. The team conducted a search and recovered 57 cases of liquor,each containing 48 quarter bottles,lables, empty bottles and machinery for the manufacture of liquor. They seized a two-wheeler also.

On interrogation of the land owner Mr.Pannerselvam ,police came to know that the land was leased out to one Mohandass of Moolakkulam for brick making.

Police registered cases against Mohandass and others.
