Gurung demands arrest of troublemakers in Siliguri
Darjeeling, Jun 13 (UNI) Gorkha Janmukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung today demanded arrest of those involved in yesterday's violence in Siliguri saying the government should prove its 'willingness' to maintain peace and harmony among the different communities.
Mr Gurung told reporters that since West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi was concerned over the escalating violence, the government should act in fairness to contain the troublemakers in the plains.
The GJM president said he received a letter today from the Governor dated June 12 saying the party should take part in June 18 meeting at Writers Building to discuss the hill situation.
The GJM after its central committee meeting this evening rejected the state government's invitation since it was not a tripartite- Centre-state and the GJM and all party meeting.
Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League president Madan Tamang said for any meeting on Darjeeling, the government should call all the parties operating in the hills.
