7 drown during Ganga Dushera revelry in UP

Lucknow, Jun 13 (UNI) The religious festival of Ganga Dushera today turned tragic for as many as seven devotees, who drowned while taking a spiritual dip in the river Ganga in Uttar Pradesh.

As per the reports, one devout drowned while taking a dip in Ganga in Kanpur, followed by three each died in Ballia and Ferozabad respectively.

Meanwhile, a beeline of pilgrims was spotted in temple towns of Varanasi, Ayodhya and Allahabad.

A large number of people also converged for the twinkling 'Ganga Aarti' in Varanasi and Prayag.

In Varanasi, Dashashwamedh and nearby ghats witnessed a huge rush since morning. The much revered Kashi Vishwanath temple also buzzed with devotees.

Taking note of the rush, stringent security arrangements had been made at the temples and ghats.

Similar religious activities took place in Kanpur, Pratapgarh, Jaunpur, Shahganj, Ambedkarnagar and Barabanki.
