No official ordered firing in Haveri on Tuesday: Srikumar

Hubli, June 12 (UNI) No official order had been issued to open fire on the agitating farmers in Haveri town on Tuesday, in which one farmer was killed and several others received bullet injuries, Inspector General of Poice R Srikumar said here today.

Speaking to newspersons here he said a departmental inquiry was on to know the truth behind the firing incident.

Stating that stern action would be initiated against the police responsible for opening fire, he said that a thorough investigation is being conducted into the whole incident.

"No senior officials had ordered firing on that fateful day," he stressed.

The DGP, who is also appointed as the Special Officer (Law and Order) to monitor the farmers agitation on fertiliser shortage.

Earlier he visited KIMS where the injured in the police firing were being treated.
