New Delhi, Jun 12 (UNI) A six-member investigation team from the NHRC will visit Bharatpur in Rajasthan tomorrow, to get a first hand account of alleged police atrocities on Gujjar community.

The team is headed by SSP Mukesh Singh.

The Commission's move comes on a petition filed by Gujjar leader Col. retd. K S Bainsla and Anurag Kasana. The fourteen point petition highlighted that at least fifty persons of Gujjar Community were killed in police firing and many others were injured.

The petition said the police resorted to firing without following the established norms and wanted to suppress the voice of the Gujjar community.

The petition also prayed for a visit by the NHRC team to carry out an on the spot inquiry into the killing of the innocent people.

The Commission had already forwarded a copy of the petition to the Chief Secretary, Rajasthan, for comments within two weeks. The Chief Secretary was also asked to inform whether the State Government had paid any ex-gratia to the dead and injured.
