Detained Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina leaves for US
Dhaka, June 12 : Detained former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, released from jail on parole on Wednesday, left Dhaka this morning for the United States for medical treatment.
She boarded a British Airways flight to London en route to the United States.
Hasina, 60, was under detention for 11 months in a building inside parliament since her arrest last July on charges of graft, abuse of power and extortion.
Before leaving, Hasina briefly met senior leaders of her Awami League political party at the airport and asked them to remain united in her absence.
Sheikh Hasina led the country from 1996 to 2001.
