CCEA approves Water Resources Information System
New Delhi, Jun 12 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today gave its approval for the Rs 234.30 crore scheme for Development of Water Resources Information System to be taken up during the 11th plan.
The plan involves collection of necessary information from various sources to ensure observation of important data and develop information system on water resources with the objective of making available all relevant information about the water resources availability, utilisation. This information is to be used by the organisations, individuals and agencies associated with planning, development, management and reserach in the area of water resources.
Except for sensitive and classified data, all information will be in the public domain, Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters after the CCEA meeting. The scheme will be fully operational by the end of 2011.
He said the system would also help in assessment of water availability and utilisation with the help of reliable data, information in scientific manner resulting in better planning, design and management and faster resolution of water related disputes.
