World Vision India's docu-drama for children's education
Chennai, Jun 11 (UNI) Local NGO World Vision India, which has been supporting more than two lakh children though its child sponsorship programme, launched 'Kanavugal' (dreams), a docu-drama reaching out to entrepreneurs and individuals to sponsor a child.
The programme aimes at creating a lasting change in the lives of children, families and communities living in poverty and enduring injustice.
''Through this programme, we want to support another 2,000 children. Our desire is that these children would one day become sponsors themselves,'' World Vision National Director Dr Jayakumar Christian told reporters here at launching of the programme yesterday.
The programme was launched by Kollywood actor Pooja.
''The project looks at garnering support and sponsorship for over 2,000 children from the backward areas of Perambalur district and Gingee,'' Dr Jayakumar said.
A sponsorship of Rs 600 every month would give the sponsored child access to education and good health. It would also provide opportunities for their parents through income generation programmes, thereby helping the entire community to move towards sustainable livelihood. This would build the community around the child and ensure that every child had an opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential.
'Kanavugal' was a 13-episode informative docu-drama produced by World Vision and would be aired at 1830 hrs from June 14 on Star Vijay.
